Your website is live. What should you check and improve next?

A practical plan after launch: check enquiries, keep content current, manage updates, review performance and prioritise the next improvements.

Publishing moves a website into everyday operation. Real enquiries, user questions and new content start arriving. Clear ownership, regular checks and a way to organise requests help keep those changes manageable.

Check the important journeys

Follow the customer journey on a phone and a desktop: find a service, open contact details and send an agreed test enquiry. For a store, use the appropriate test mode to check ordering. Verify the result in the receiving system as well as the message displayed on the screen.

Repeat these checks after changes to forms, payments, integrations or structure. Agree who monitors enquiries and where problems should be reported.

Keep information current

Assign someone to review contact details, service descriptions, terms and product availability. Promotions need clear dates and eligibility conditions; expired offers should be updated promptly.

Customer questions can reveal missing explanations. Add useful answers to the relevant pages and publish new portfolio work once the materials are cleared for use.

Update with a verification plan

Changes to the platform, dependencies and connected services need compatibility checks. Before a significant update, decide what will be tested and how the previous state could be restored if a problem occurs.

Clarify backups separately: what is stored, who owns the copies and whether the recovery procedure is understood. Having a copy and being able to restore operations are different questions.

Look at the real user experience

Core Web Vitals cover main-content loading, responsiveness to interaction and visual stability. Lab tests help diagnose issues, while field data reflects real visitors' experiences. Results depend on devices, networks and test conditions.

Consider speed alongside the usability of important journeys. A strong test score does not explain why someone failed to find a service or understand a form.

Keep a clear task list

For each issue, record the page, steps to reproduce it, expected outcome and user impact. This helps distinguish a defect from a new feature and agree on its priority.

  • Start with issues that block important actions.
  • Then address recurring points of friction.
  • Estimate new modules and major redesigns separately.
  • After implementation, verify the result and record the changes.

Agree on the support arrangement

Individual tasks and ongoing support suit different needs. Define the contact channel, working hours, scope and estimation process before work begins. Guaranteed response times or around-the-clock coverage need a separate agreement. Clear expectations help both sides plan their work.
